Making Cities Smarter: DataBroker DAO – Part 1: Project Introduction

This piece will be a four part series in which I will be introducing the DataBroker DAO project, analyzing the challenges and solutions, how it works and its use cases, and then finally reviewing the project ICO/token sale.

Project Introduction 

At first glance word DATABROKER is a combination of two words DATA and BROKER, so by default it gives an idea of what the platform is about; buying and selling of data.
Sounds simple and easy enough? Not quite.
Let’s dive into some facts;
  • Smart devices like our smartphones, home appliances or even vehicles gathers and exchange data on the go with IoT (Internet of Things) sensors embedded in them
  • Technological innovations needs these authentic data to monitor and optimize their operations, but most are limited by the cost of gathering it
  • IoT sensors are very expensive to buy and install (over $600 billion is spent on IoT sensors yearly)
  • The data gathered by IoT sensors for most devices serve a specific purpose and  the excess data are locked up in silos and are inaccessible
  • There is no platform in place to monetize these excess unused data
This fact however highlights some problems and a huge vacuum which a decentralized platform like Databroker DAO aims to fill.

What is DataBroker DAO? (In simple terms)

DataBroker DAO is a decentralized marketplace where sensor data consumers can buy needed sensor data directly from data sensor owners in a transparent and open way. 
DataBroker DAO will make sensor data acquisition easy and affordable for organizations, businesses and personal use, creating smart cities using the innovation of the Blockchain technology. With DataBroker DAO sensor owners are able to monetize and generate income through the data gathered by their sensors.
In a sense, DataBroker DAO can be likened to a “secondary market” for iot sensor data and has been referred to as an “ebay” or “amazon” for iot sensor data. – Extract from Whitepaper
The DataBroker DAO platform is huge in all sense and fills a vacuum that consumes billions in dollars yearly; this in itself is reason enough for the project to be a huge success.
